My Perspective

CAPTURING THE HIDDEN MOMENTS OF FORMULA ONE"S GOLDEN AGE

From the moment I entered the Formula One pit lane in 1972, it became a place that spoke to me so clearly and intensely, I couldn’t leave. I had been searching to capture the face of life lived on the limit; making images that not only revealed resilience and grit, but might teach me how to make my heart beat faster as well. The chance to document the faces and the emotions of the men I found in that Grand Prix pit lane over the next decade did more than that…they changed my life forever.

Original Formula One Photography from the Golden Age

Original fine art photography from Formula One's Golden Age — captured by Richard Kelley from 1972–1984.

For many unforeseen reasons, my images sat unpublished for more than thirty years. That's changed. It is an immense privilege to finally reveal my iconic images of the laughs, the luck and the laments of Formula One’s Golden Age.

I invite you to experience my portfolio, galleries and extended captions and allow yourself to be taken back to a time that we’ll never experience again; when you were able to be so close, to listen so carefully, and to see such brilliance, passion and commitment to such a perceptible degree as in these moments from a Grand Prix pit lane gone forever.
